Ceilings: calculate and quote

Drop ceilings, tiles and grid, crown molding, coffered trim, tongue-and-groove planks, vaulted ceilings and fan downrods.

Calculators

What ceilings can I estimate here?

Drop ceilings (tiles and grid), drywall ceilings, crown molding and coffers, tongue-and-groove planks, vaulted ceilings and fan downrods — plus attic and ceiling insulation.

Each calculator gives materials per area or per foot with waste; the commercial drop ceiling calculator adds installed cost.

Drop ceiling or drywall?

Drop ceilings give access to services and suit offices and retail; drywall gives a smooth finish at home. Both can integrate lighting and improve sound control with mineral wool.

Always coordinate with electrical and HVAC before closing up.

How does slope affect measurement?

On sloped or vaulted ceilings true area exceeds plan area: about 15% more at 30° and 41% at 45°. Measure the plan, apply the pitch factor and use that area for paint, insulation or planks.

Don't forget gable walls when estimating paint.
