Calculate labour, margin & VAT

How it's calculated (visible formula)

strips = ceil(width ÷ roll width); roll length = strips × (length + 4 in); area = roll length × roll width

See methodology and formula versions

How to calculate it, step by step

  1. Measure room length and width (to the middle of the doorway).
  2. Choose the available roll width.
  3. Work out strips and their length with 4 in extra.
  4. Get linear feet and square yards to buy.
  5. Add pad and tack strip.

Worked example: 16 × 13 ft room with 13 ft (4 m) roll

  1. 1 strip of 16.7 ft
  2. 16.7 × 13.1 ≈ 220 sq ft (24.4 yd²)

→ About 24.4 yd² of carpet and 25 yd² of pad.
