Calculate labour, margin & VAT

How it's calculated (visible formula)

tons = area × compacted depth × (1 + waste) × density

See methodology and formula versions

How to calculate it, step by step

  1. Measure the area to pave.
  2. Set compacted depth.
  3. Work out volume and add 5% waste.
  4. Convert to tons with compacted density.
  5. Work out truckloads and schedule the paver.

Worked example: 1,076 sq ft driveway at 2⅜ in

  1. ≈ 6 m³ (212 cu ft)
  2. +5% × 145 lb/ft³ ≈ 16.3 short tons

→ About 16 tons (14.8 t) — one truck.
