Calculate labor, margin & tax

How it's calculated (visible formula)

area = doors × (2 sides × 17.4 sq ft + 6.5 sq ft frame) + baseboard × 4 in + windows × 10.8 sq ft; paint = area ÷ coverage × coats

See methodology and formula versions

How to calculate it, step by step

  1. Count doors (both sides) and frames.
  2. Measure baseboard length.
  3. Count windows with trim.
  4. Work out area and quarts of enamel.
  5. Round up to cans.

Worked example: 4 doors, 98 ft of baseboard, 2 windows

  1. ≈ 20.4 m² (220 sq ft)
  2. ÷ 12 m²/l × 2 = 3.4 l; +10% ≈ 3.7 l

→ About 4 quarts (one gallon).
