Calculate labor, margin & tax

How it's calculated (visible formula)

single-phase: I = P ÷ (V × PF); three-phase: I = P ÷ (√3 × V × PF)

See methodology and formula versions

How to calculate it, step by step

  1. Find the appliance wattage (nameplate).
  2. Enter supply voltage (120/240 V single-phase or 208/480 V three-phase).
  3. Choose single-phase or three-phase.
  4. Enter power factor (1 for heaters).
  5. Get the current and compare with the circuit.

Worked example: 1,500 W heater on 120 V

  1. Single-phase, PF = 1
  2. I = 1,500 ÷ (120 × 1) = 12.5 A

→ 12.5 A — use a 20 A circuit (80% continuous rule).
