How it's calculated (visible formula)
cost = length × price/m + posts × price + gates × price + length × labor/m
- Net geometric measurement, no waste.
- Adjustable waste % for cuts and breakage.
- Purchase rounded up to sellable units (boxes, bags, buckets, boards).
How to calculate it, step by step
- Measure total fence length.
- Work out posts from spacing.
- Enter your prices for fencing per metre, posts and gates.
- Add labor per linear metre.
- Check the resulting cost per foot to compare materials.
Worked example: 100 ft (30 m) with posts every 8 ft and 1 gate
- Fencing: 30 m × $25 = $750
- 13 posts × $12 = $156; gate $150
- Labor: 30 × $15 = $450
→ $1,506 total — about $15 per linear foot.
