Calculate labour, margin & GST

How it's calculated (visible formula)

pieces = area × pieces per area × (1 + waste); pallets = ceil(pieces ÷ pieces per pallet)

See methodology and formula versions

How to calculate it, step by step

  1. Work out true roof area (not footprint).
  2. Choose the roofing type and pieces per area.
  3. Multiply and add 10% waste.
  4. Work out ridge and hip pieces per foot.
  5. Round up to full pallets.

Worked example: 1,290 sq ft (12.9 squares) of asphalt shingles

  1. 12.9 × 3 = 38.8 bundles
  2. +10% = 43 bundles
  3. 43 ÷ 42 per pallet

→ 43 bundles (2 pallets) plus ridge cap.
