Calculate labour, margin & GST

How it's calculated (visible formula)

ratio = opening area ÷ floor area; minimum = floor area × required percentage

See methodology and formula versions

How to calculate it, step by step

  1. Measure room floor area.
  2. Measure glazed and openable window area.
  3. Enter the percentages your code requires.
  4. Compare current ratios with the minimums.
  5. If short, work out how much opening is missing.

Worked example: 215 sq ft bedroom, 32 sq ft glazing (16 openable)

  1. Light: 15% (minimum 8–10%)
  2. Ventilation: 7.5% (minimum 4–5%)

→ Meets both minimums.
