Calculate labour, margin & GST

How it's calculated (visible formula)

cost = length × price/m + posts × price + gates × price + length × labor/m

See methodology and formula versions

How to calculate it, step by step

  1. Measure total fence length.
  2. Work out posts from spacing.
  3. Enter your prices for fencing per metre, posts and gates.
  4. Add labor per linear metre.
  5. Check the resulting cost per foot to compare materials.

Worked example: 100 ft (30 m) with posts every 8 ft and 1 gate

  1. Fencing: 30 m × $25 = $750
  2. 13 posts × $12 = $156; gate $150
  3. Labor: 30 × $15 = $450

→ $1,506 total — about $15 per linear foot.
