Calculate labour, margin & GST

How it's calculated (visible formula)

skim = area × thickness (mm) × 1.6 kg/m²·mm; base = 0.4 kg/m²

See methodology and formula versions

How to calculate it, step by step

  1. Measure the area to skim.
  2. Set skim thickness (≈ 1 mm).
  3. Work out finishing compound by thickness.
  4. Add base compound for the Level 4 coats.
  5. Add primer.

Worked example: 430 sq ft with a 1 mm (≈ 1/32 in) skim

  1. 40 m² × 1 × 1.6 = 64 kg + 10% = 70 kg
  2. Base: 17.6 kg

→ 3 buckets of finishing compound, 1 bag of base mud and 1 gal of primer.
