Calculate labour, margin & GST

How it's calculated (visible formula)

area = perimeter × height − openings; paint = area ÷ coverage × coats

See methodology and formula versions

How to calculate it, step by step

  1. Measure perimeter and height of each wall (with gables).
  2. Subtract doors and windows.
  3. Check coverage for the surface (smooth or rough).
  4. Work out gallons for two coats with waste.
  5. Round up to 5-gallon buckets.

Worked example: House with 131 ft perimeter, 20 ft high, 160 sq ft openings

  1. ≈ 2,420 sq ft (225 m²)
  2. ÷ 250 sq ft/gal × 2 ≈ 19.8 gal (75 l)
  3. +10% ≈ 21.8 gal

→ Five 5-gallon buckets.
