Calculate labour, margin & GST

How it's calculated (visible formula)

pickets = ceil(length ÷ (picket + gap)) × (1 + waste); posts = ceil(length ÷ spacing) + 1

See methodology and formula versions

How to calculate it, step by step

  1. Measure fence length.
  2. Pick picket width and gap.
  3. Pickets = length ÷ (picket + gap), plus 5%.
  4. Work out posts and rails from spacing.
  5. Add screws: two per picket per rail.

Worked example: 50 ft, 3½ in pickets, 2½ in gap

  1. 600 in ÷ 6 in = 100 pickets
  2. +5% = 105
  3. 50 ÷ 8 = 7 + 1 = 8 posts

→ 105 pickets, 8 posts, 105 ft of rail and 1 box of screws.
